Taking Creative Risks – My First Rare Impression (Beyoncé)

You know that feeling when you’re about to take a creative leap, and it’s absolutely terrifying? Yeah… I’m right there.

For years, I designed and sold SVG files for Cricut crafters—clean, precise, predictable designs. I loved it. It provided for my family, but deep down, I missed the artist I used to be. Before motherhood, I designed costumes, created characters, and played with colour, pattern, and transformation. But somewhere along the way, I convinced myself that kind of art wasn’t something I could ever make a living from. That I wasn’t good enough.

Then, after struggling through post-natal depression, something shifted. I realised I couldn’t keep holding myself back. If I wanted to live my dream, I had to take the leap—even if it scared me.

So, I’m challenging myself. Every day, I’ll sketch an iconic figure from pop culture, inspired by their costumes, their transformations, and the way they use style to tell a story. Because pushing boundaries is where creativity thrives.

At the heart of my work is the theme of Becoming and Transformation. My art explores resilience, vulnerability, and strength, finding chaos in the calm. But above all, I want my work to make people feel empowered and inspired by whatever personal journey they find themselves on.

And who better to start with than Beyoncé in her Grammy-winning moment?

She’s spent decades at the top of pop and R&B… and then she stepped into country music. A total creative risk. Unexpected. Bold. And she won—making history as the first Black woman to win Best Country Album and Album of the Year at the 2025 Grammys.

Her album Cowboy Carter shook things up, blending country with blues, rock, and hip-hop. Some people loved it, some didn’t—but no one could ignore it.

That’s what inspires me. Not just talent, but the willingness to evolve, to step into the unknown, to take creative risks even when people doubt you.

So, here’s my first Rare Impression—Beyoncé. I wanted to capture that fearless energy, the textures, the richness of her presence, and the power of stepping outside your comfort zone.

What’s the biggest creative risk you’ve ever taken? Drop it in the comments! And tell me—who should I sketch next? 🎤✨
